The HVS High Voltage Standard from Ohm-Labs is an advanced voltage reference designed for applications where precision, reliability, and flexibility are essential. Thanks to a unique modular design and innovative shielding structure, the HVS delivers exceptional performance up to 150 kV, with ISO 17025-accredited calibration.
Technical Design
The HVS is based on a modified Park divider structure and utilizes carefully matched precision resistors. The low resistance is provided by an Ohm-Labs 100-Series standard resistor, which can be easily removed for individual calibration or replaced to achieve different division ratios. Without this resistor, the HVS can also be used as a standalone high-voltage resistor.
Guard Structure and Measurement Reliability
An innovative guard structure isolates each resistor at its rated voltage, minimizing leakage currents. This guard has a resistance ten times higher than that of the main divider and forms a secondary divider with a separate output resistance for voltage monitoring. Larger and more robust ground connections ensure lower resistance to ground and increase overall measurement reliability.
Modular and Robust Design
The high-voltage resistors are housed in a transparent acrylic tube that provides protection against dust and contamination. The base unit consists of a high-voltage resistor stack rated up to 50 kV DC, a ratio resistor standard, and an upper toroid. For higher voltages, HVS-A add-on units can be added, each with an additional 50 kV stack and an intermediate toroid. Thanks to the modular design, these can be easily stacked to reach a range of 150 kV.
Ease of Transport
The HVS is designed with safe and easy transport in mind. All components—toroid, high-voltage section, base, and resistor stand—can be disassembled without special tools. A special transport case is not required, making the system particularly practical for mobile use or on-site calibrations.

Calibration and Certification
Each HVS comes with an ISO 17025-accredited calibration, valid up to 150 kV DC and up to 100 kV RMS AC at both 50 and 60 Hz. This guarantees traceable and reliable measurements, supported by certificate #2481.01.
