Primary Laboratory
Clarke-Hess 5600 Precision Phase Standard

The Clarke-Hess 5600 is a highly accurate phase calibration standard (Precision Phase Standard) designed for the calibration of phase angle meters, phase analysis instruments, vector voltmeters, power analysers and frequency response analysers (FRAs). This instrument offers a wide frequency range from 1 Hz to 1 MHz, an exceptional phase resolution of 0.0001º, and a maximum output current of 30 mA.

With a high-resolution colour display, phase accuracy to ±5 mº at low frequencies, and interfaces such as IEEE-488 and USB, the Clarke Hess 5600 is ideal for both laboratory and industrial applications where extreme precision is required.

Excellent phase and voltage accuracy

The Clarke-Hess 5600 uses digital signal synthesis to generate two low-distortion sine waves, whose relative phase angle can be accurately varied in steps of 0.0001º within a range of -999.9999º to +999.9999º.

The phase accuracy depends on the frequency:

> 1 Hz – 1 kHz: ±5 mº
> 1 kHz – 6.25 kHz: ±10 mº
> 6.25 kHz – 50 kHz: ±15 mº
> 50 kHz – 200 kHz: ±40 mº
> 200 kHz – 1 MHz: ±[40 + 210(fkHz-200)÷800] mº

In addition, the 5600 offers a voltage accuracy of ±0.5% up to 50 kHz and an output voltage range of 50 mV to 120 VRMS at frequencies up to 200 kHz.

Auto-zero functionality for ultimate precision

The Clarke-Hess 5600 includes an advanced auto-zero function, which automatically compensates for phase errors between the two output channels by performing measurements at ±90°. This function is activated whenever there is a change in amplitude or frequency, but can also be performed manually or disabled completely by the user.

Low distortion and noise levels

Total harmonic distortion (THD) plus noise is exceptionally low, making the 5600 ideal for high-quality signal measurements:

< 0.02% from 1 Hz to 1 kHz
< 0.05% from 1 kHz to 20 kHz
< 0.13% from 20 kHz – 50 kHz
< 0.30% from 50 kHz – 600 kHz

User-friendly operation and connectivity

With a 4.3-inch high-resolution colour screen and IEEE-488 and USB connectivity, the 5600 can be easily controlled remotely via a PC. This makes the instrument easy to integrate into advanced laboratories and automated measurement setups.

Applications

The Clarke Hess 5600 is designed for the calibration and verification of:

> Phase angle meters and vector voltmeters
> Power analysers and energy meters
> Frequency response analysers (FRAs)
> Electronic test and measurement systems in R&D and production environments

The Clarke Hess 5600 Precision Phase Standard offers an unrivalled combination of accuracy, stability and advanced functionality for phase calibrations and measurement systems.
