Isotech 4853 Pegasus

The Isotech 4853 Pegasus is a powerful high‑temperature dry block calibrator designed for the calibration of thermocouples up to 1200 °C. Its compact, portable design and rapid heating and cooling make it ideal for laboratory and field use across industries such as glass manufacturing, power generation, automotive and materials processing. The Pegasus provides a highly stable and reproducible temperature zone optimized for comparison calibration.

Engineered for extreme temperatures

Operating from 150 °C to 1200 °C, the Pegasus uses a specially designed tube furnace with an optimized temperature profile. The heating element windings are concentrated at the ends of the furnace, where heat losses are greatest, resulting in a flatter temperature profile and lower uncertainty. The ceramic furnace construction ensures stability and durability at extreme temperatures.

Optimized temperature uniformity

The standard insert features a metal block with four 8 mm pockets, each 80 mm deep, positioned beneath 50 mm of insulation. This creates an effective immersion depth of 130 mm, combining the thermal conductivity of metal with the stability of the furnace zone. The result is excellent radial and axial uniformity across the full temperature range.

Blackbody option for IR calibration

For infrared thermometer calibration, the Pegasus can be equipped with a blackbody target. This accessory is used with a specially angled Type R thermocouple positioned directly behind the target, enabling accurate reference measurements for non‑contact temperature calibration.

Model options: BASIC, SITE and ADVANCED

The BASIC model displays set and block temperature and is ideal for comparison calibration using an external reference thermometer such as the milliK.
The SITE model adds an independent reference probe indicator for improved traceability.
The ADVANCED model includes inputs for reference and test thermometers, automatic temperature cycling, secure data logging, a full‑colour high‑resolution display and an integrated web server, making it ideal for laboratories requiring full automation and documentation.

Thermal performance

The Pegasus achieves a stability of ±0.05 °C at 150 °C and ±0.08 °C at 1200 °C in the ADVANCED configuration. The BASIC and SITE models offer stability of ±0.1 °C at 150 °C and ±0.2 °C at 1200 °C. The furnace heats at 25 °C per minute and cools from 1200 °C to 800 °C in 50 minutes, and to 200 °C in 180 minutes, with significantly reduced times when using the optional air cooling adaptor.

Ease of use and portability

Despite its extreme temperature capability, the Pegasus remains compact and portable, weighing 13 kg with dimensions of 384 × 212 × 312 mm. All models include I‑Cal Easy LOG software, while the ADVANCED version adds enhanced software for configuration and data management.

Accessories and customization

A wide range of accessories is available, including blackbody kits, custom inserts, ceramic insulators, air cooling modules, current loop interfaces and rugged carrying cases, allowing the Pegasus to be tailored to virtually any high‑temperature calibration requirement.

The Isotech Pegasus 4853 is a robust, accurate and highly capable high‑temperature dry block calibrator. With its optimized furnace design, three model options and extensive accessory support, the Pegasus is an excellent choice for laboratories and industries requiring reliable thermocouple calibration up to 1200 °C.
